Sea-Salt Ice Cream
It was cold at the top of the clock tower. Surprisingly, the wind wasn’t very loud. The wind in Twilight Town never really blew that hard. Roxas sat in the middle of the ledge overlooking the town. I paused for a moment, unsure as what I was supposed to do. Roxas noticed and told me to sit next to him.
“You’re not worried you might fall?” I asked.
“Well, no, not really.”
I was surprised. Slowly, I sat down next to him. My foot suddenly slipped and I fell into Roxas. He almost dropped his ice cream but he kept a tight grip. I couldn’t help but blushed once I realized I had fallen into his arms.
“You okay?” Roxas asked, sincerely.
I scrambled off of him and cleared my throat.
“Er, yeah. I’m fine.”
After I regained my composure, I asked:
“So, what’s this ice cream called again?”
“It’s sea-salt ice cream! It’s Axel’s favorite flavor. He brought me up here at the end of my first week of the Organization. He said he liked how unique it was.”
Roxas seemed eager for me to try it. I held the ice cream bar up, and slowly bit into it. At first, it was extremely salty, but then, as the name suggested, the salty taste turned into sweetness.
“Salty…but sweet” I echoed my thoughts, “Unique indeed!”
.
Suddenly, my visioned flashed to something. When I looked to where Roxas was sitting, he was wearing the black and white jacket again. Instead of the clock tower, we were standing in a town, filled with mouse-shaped balloons and brightly colored banners. I was holding the same ice cream bar in my hand, as was he. Except, the bite I had taken was gone. The bar was full.
“Ready?” ‘Roxas’ asked.
“And-!” I found myself saying.
Then, we bit into the bars. ‘Roxas’ laughed.
“Your face-!” He giggled, his mouth still full and trying to cover it.
“Hey! That was unexpectedly salty!” I snapped, “Although-“
I paused for a moment. Then, I responded with:
“-it’s sweet now.”
“Yeah…” ‘Roxas’ agreed, “I like it!”
“Certainly unique” I added, “It’s not bad…”
I felt a pain in my chest that caused me to shiver.
What was this feeling?
.
“Hey, Xzylair!”
I snapped back to reality. There we were, back on the tower. The pain was gone. I shook my head. Roxas was looking at me, head tilted and eyebrow raised.
“Sorry, I spaced out” I apologized.
“You looked as if you were remembering something” Roxas observed.
“Yeah, I guess you could say that…”
I didn’t tell him any more than that. I wasn’t even sure if I was remembering anything! Maybe they were just daydreams. Unless…
