Re:Connect – Kiera Dreamseeker {Part 3} – Chapter XXI

Initiation of the Keyblade

“Kiera? Kiera!”

Kiera slowly opened her eyes. She could see Aqua standing over her, along with the little red haired girl. They both looked very concerned. Kiera sat up.

“Wha-? What happened?” she asked.

“I found you on the ground, sleeping” Aqua explained.

“The monster was hurting you, so I scared him away!” The girl exclaimed.

Kiera giggled.

“Is that right? Well, thank you Kairi!” she thanked, “You’re my hero!”

The little girl giggled. Aqua reached her hand out to her. Kiera took it, and Aqua picked her up. Kiera then knelt back down to the little red-haired girl’s eye level.

“My name’s Kiera. This is my friend Aqua. What’s your name?” she asked

“I’m Kairi!” Kairi announced, “It’s nice to meet you Miss Kiera!”

Kiera snorted.

“Please. I’m too young for a ‘miss’! Just ‘Kiera’ will do.”

Kairi grinned. “Here!”

From behind her back, she pulled out a large bouquet of brightly colored daisies. She then parted them into two groups.

“One for you-” Kairi handed one half to Kiera, “-And one for you-!” and she handed the other half to Aqua.”

“Wow. They’re lovely” Aqua responded, sweetly.

“I think we’ll need to put these in vases when we get home!” Kiera stated, then glanced at Aqua, “Won’t we, Aqua?”

Aqua nodded with a smile.

“Of course!”

Kiera stared at Kairi tenderly for a moment. She closed her eyes. She couldn’t remember that last fight very well, but she remembered Kairi’s light, which caused the Unversed to disappear. Then, Kiera remembered a special ritual that she was taught to her when she first was able to summon the keyblade.

In your hand, take this key,

So long as you have the makings, then through this simple act of taking, its wielder you shall one day be.

And you will find me, friend– no ocean will contain you then.

No more borders around, or below, or above, so long as you champion the ones you love.”

“Kairi? Kairi!” called an elderly voice in the distance.

“Oh! My grandma’s calling me!” Kairi announced.

“Wait a moment” said Aqua.

Aqua reached out her finger, and touched the charm on the necklace Kairi had around her neck. There was a little shimmer, and a sound of sparkles.

“Kairi, I just cast a magic spell on you” Aqua announced, “One day when you’re in trouble, the light within you will lead you to the light of another. Someone to keep you safe.”

Kairi stared in awe.

“Wow! Thank you!”

Aqua stood up, and started to leave.

“I’ll catch up with you in a minute, Aqua” Kiera decided.

Aqua nodded, and disappeared around the corner.

Kiera turned back to Kairi.

“Kairi, I have something for you too” she said.

Kiera reached out her hand, and summoned Dreamseeker. Then, she turned it around so that she was carefully holding the blade, and the grip was untouched.

“Could you hold onto the grip for me please?” she asked, gently.

Kairi looked at the keyblade for a moment, then cautiously put her hand around the hilt. Then, establishing eye-contact with Kiera, Kiera spoke the poem:

“In your hand, take this key,

So long as you have the makings, then through this simple act of taking, its wielder you shall one day be.

And you will find me, friend– no ocean will contain you then.

No more borders around, or below, or above, so long as you champion the ones you love.”

Nothing happened. Kiera smiled.

“Kairi, I’ve given you a special power. The power to protect your friends, and use your shining light to guide others who need help” she instructed, “One day, I believe you will grow up to be a strong, brave, and courageous young woman.”

Kairi grinned and giggled.

“Thank you” she said, more quietly.

“But don’t tell anyone else about it, okay? It can’t work if it’s not a secret. See you around, Kairi.”

And with that, Kairi took off to an elderly grandmother.

“There you are, Kairi. I was worried about you” said the woman.

“Sorry grandmother, I was helping two nice ladies fight a monster!”

“Wow Kairi, you must’ve been very brave!”

“Uh-huh!”
